The connection between Doctor Who and Marvel Entertainment..

Rights to Publish Doctor Who Comics

Marvel Comics first obtained the comic strip/book rights to the Doctor in 1979. Prior to this, several British publishers held the rights for a series of comic strips that ran from 1964 to 1979. There was also a separate comic strip devoted to the Daleks that was published for several years in the late 1960s before merging with the main Doctor Who strip. Marvel primarily published original adventures as a serialized strip in Doctor Who Weekly, later renamed Doctor Who Monthly and Doctor Who Magazine. This strip was later reprinted for North American distribution in several issues of Marvel Premiere and again in a monthly Doctor Who title that ran for several years in the early 1980s. The only non-DWM-related comic material published by Marvel was a one-off miniseries titled The Age of Chaos (written by Sixth Doctor actor Colin Baker), and it also reprinted excerpts from the 1964-1979 comic strip era in DWM and a spin-off magazine titled Doctor Who Classic Comics.

Marvel Comics ceased to hold the license for the Doctor's comic book adventures in 1999.

But that doesn't end Here. In 2005 The Doctor Who series was revived. And from then many of the Doctor Who casts has been in The newly formed MCU.Some of them are..

Actors of Doctor Who , who appeared in MCU..

Christopher Eccleston

Above Right: Christopher Eccleston ;Below: him as Malekith in Thor 2 ; above left : the charecter Malekith in Avengers (animation)

Christopher Eccleston, played the role of The Doctor when the show was revived after a large gap. He only appeared in 1 season unlike others before or after him who played the role.
MARVEL fans may recognise him as Malekith, the accursed one in Thor 2. He wanted to use the Aether (a fluid based infinity stone) as a catastrophic weapon against Asgard and the other realms but was defeated by Thor. It is ironic that he played the Doctor in Doctor Who in which he saves the universe from alien menaces but in Thor 2 he himself was the menace
This is one of the 2 examples where an actor Playing the charecter of The Doctor has played a major Villain in a Marvel media.

David Tennant
Above : David Tennant as Purple Man or Killgrave in Jessica Jones ; Below right : David as the tenth Doctor; Below left : The Charecter Purple Man in the Comics.

David Tennant who played the Tenth doctor and was the successor to Christopher Eccleston in the Doctor Who universe is one of the most charismatic Doctor onscreen.
He also played The Purple Man or Killgrave in the MARVEL'S Netflix show Jessica Jones. He played the charecter as wonderful as he played The Doctor. He is a Talented actor who can be Jolly and funny as well as Dark and gritty when the charecter demands depending upon the situation.
His chilling performance made him one of the best MCU villains among fans.

Karen Gillan

Top right: Karen Gillan as Amy Pond ; Below right : Herself as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy and GOTG Vol.2 ; Right : The charecter Nebula in Comics.

Karen Gillan played Amy Pond, the companion to Eleventh Doctor played by Matt Smith. She also played Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 & 2 in the MCU.

Toby Jones

Right : Toby Jones as Dr. Arnim Zola; Left : Him as the Dream lord in the Episode Amy's Choice in Doctor Who

Toby played the dream lord in an Doctor Who Episode Amy's Choice. Where he was The Doctor's inner Dark manifestation.
MARVEL fans know him as Dr.Arnim Zola, the Hydra Scientist from Captain America : The First Avenger and layer flims.

Hayley Atwell

Left : Hayley Atwell in one of Doctor Who audio cover; Right : herself as Agent Peggy Carter in Marvel's Agent Carter
No, I haven’t missed Captain America’s lost love turning up on the small screen in Doctor Who. To experience Marvel star Hayley Atwell’s appearances in the Whoniverse, you have to look (or rather listen) to a different medium.
The British actress’ career rocketed when she appeared as the very capable Agent Peggy Carter in 2009’s Captain America: The First Avenger. She has since become a core part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the lead role in TV series Agent Carter and cameos in sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Ant-Man. But before finding international recognition, Hayley Atwell appeared several times in the Doctor Who audios made by Big Finish, appearing opposite the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Doctors and facing off against the Daleks.

Josh Dallas

Left : John as as info Nide in Silence in the Library Doctor Who Episode; Right : John as Fandral in Thor 1 and 2.
Viewers with long memories might remember American actor Josh Dallas from the 2008 Doctor Who adventure Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead, in which he briefly appears as one of the Library’s information Nodes – robots with donated human faces.
He may have been little more than a face on the back of a spoon on Doctor Who but Mr Dallas has a much more full-bodied role in Thor as the Asgardian Fandral, one of the Warriors Three.

Talulah Riley

Left : Talulah in Dilence in the library Doctor Who Episode; Right: herself as Asgardian nurse in Thor 2
Another alumnus of Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead, Riley played the unfortunate Miss Evangelista; a sweetly dim PA who is eaten by the Vashta Nerada. Somehow, things only get worse for the character when her consciousness is uploaded to the Library’s core and the data is corrupted – her IQ shoots up but her face becomes grossly disfigured.
She also briefly pops up as one of Jane Foster’s Asgardian nurses in Thor: The Dark World.

Jenna Coleman

Left : Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald; Right : Jenna Coleman's charecter beside Bucky in Captain America 1

Before joining Doctor Who as companion Clara Oswald in 2012 , Jenna (formerly Jenna-Louise) Coleman had a steady career including regular roles in English soap operas Waterloo Road and EastEnders. Oh yeah, and a cameo in Captain America. That’s right, one of the Impossible Girl’s splinters in time apparently materialised in 1940s America. Jenna doesn’t have a huge role in the film but features in the scene in which a pre-Cap Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes go on a double date to the fair.
Tony Carran
Right : Tony Carran as Vincent Van Gogh in the Doctor Who Episode Vincent and the Doctor; Left : Tony as Bor, father of Odin, Grandfather of Thor in Thor 2.

Tony Appeared in Doctor Who Episode as Vincent Van Gogh. He played the legendary Artist in such a brilliant way that the viewer were spellbound. When he came to know that in future there were exhibitions of his art pieces and critics could not stop praising his art his emotional face(in the above pic) is still etched  in viewers minds.
He also played The role of Bor, Thor's Granddaddy 8n Thor : The Dark world.

The list doesn't ends here.. There are many actors like Spencer Wilding, Skaldak the ice warrior and Minotaur in one episode of Doctor Who and The sneaky blue skinned listener to Starlord's Walkman in GOTG. Then there is Christopher Fairbank who appeared in Doctor Who Episode Flatline and In MCU he plays the broker to whom Starlord first went to sold the Orb containing the Power Stone. Then there is David Bradley Who played William Hartnell, The First Doctor in a Docu drama about the show and Solomon 8n an Episode Dinosaurs on a Spaceship but he is also credited as tbe towerkeeper in Captain America 1.

It looks like some MCU Guys are also a Fan of The Doctor Who universe and casts charecters from Whoniverse in tbe MCU. Both have many fans across the Globe who are diehard in their fandom and there may some common die hard fans like me who loves both the universes equally and gets excited when a Charecter from any one universe appears in the other..
What do you guys think?? Bdw this is my first blog so please underlook the mistakes.
